Growth Comes With Challenges

Dear Friends,

Thank you all for supporting our April events. Volkswagen of Puyallup generously matched our raffle donations, and Les Schwab kindly sponsored the Puyallup Food Bank at the Spring Fair and held a 3-week food drive at all of their Pierce County locations.

Coming up in May, we will be selling Mother’s Day gift baskets at the South Hill Mall, May 7th from 1-5PM and May 8th from 12-4PM. They are spa and gardening themed and will range from $40- $100. We hope to see you there!

As I complete my second month leading this wonderful organization, I would like to share with you one of our biggest logistical challenges. We are currently keeping the bulk of our cold and frozen items in two borrowed (thank you Sysco!) trailers at our location in downtown Puyallup.

Keeping refrigerator trailers, aka “reefers”, creates a number of big challenges. They are difficult and expensive to fuel. Two trailers take up nearly our entire parking lot. Unloading and working in trailers is difficult and somewhat dangerous for our volunteers and employees. I could go on. Oh, and Sysco needs their trailers back for their busy season.

My team and I are working on this challenge, and we are implementing some solutions for the long term. I share this because I want you to know that our work is not easy, and your encouragement, prayers, advice, financial support, and other efforts are greatly appreciated. Thank you for helping us serve our neighbors in need.

As you desire to help, please keep in mind that we need macaroni, cheese, soup, and canned veggies. You can stop by with your donations Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Serving Together,

Shawn Manley
Acting CEO
