The Tip of the Iceberg

As of January 2021 the Puyallup Food Bank continues to receive enormous generosity from our community. This outpouring of love is greatly appreciated as we have seen increased need for food skyrocket due to the COVID19 pandemic. Unfortunately, I believe the increased need we are seeing is just the tip of the iceberg, hence, we need to prepare for what could come.

The number of individuals and families that we are serving has gone through the roof this past year and has over doubled since 2019! We are seeing children, families and seniors, who prior to the economic downturn as a result of COVID, are now in need of food assistance. I am pleased to report however, that our community has responded to this increased need with an overwhelming expression of generosity in both food and cash donations.

As a result of this enormous growth, we have literally outgrown our current facility and have needed to temporarily use space at the Washington State Fairgrounds to handle the overflow. However, we cannot continue to operate out the fairgrounds forever, hence we need another facility. While that endeavor is large, I am absolutely confident that our community will step up to help us attain that lofty, but meaningful goal.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, the clients of the Puyallup Food Bank, as well as myself, please accept my sincerest gratitude for your heart of love to help those in need of food.

May God bless you, your family, and your businesses for your ongoing generosity,

Dean Johnson
