Announcing Our New CEO

PUYALLUP – The Puyallup Food Bank is excited to announce the appointment of Dean Johnson as our new Puyallup Food Bank Chief Executive Officer. The food bank has a longstanding history of serving our neighbors in need.

“This is a critical moment for our community in general, and for our hungry neighbors in particular,” said Anna Madden, Chair of the Puyallup Food Bank Board. “Our board unanimously voted to bring Dean on as our CEO and is confident in his ability to lead our organization through one of the most challenging seasons we have encountered in our nearly five decades of service. His genuine desire to serve and his heart to do this generously shows that he is the right leader at the right time for our organization.”

Mr. Johnson has 20 years of executive experience working in various non-profit organizations. With Dean’s unique and broad-based professional background, he is positioned to build strong partnerships with a broad section of the industries within our region which will further expand the organizational impact of the Puyallup Food Bank.

The Puyallup Food Bank’s mission is simple: “Serving our neighbors in need. They’re hungry and shouldn’t be.”

The Puyallup Foodbank strives to provide food to those in need with dignity and to utilize food surpluses, eliminating waste. We are the largest food bank in East Pierce County, serving as both a direct provider to clients, and as a distribution hub for other food banks and nonprofit organizations.

For over 48 years, the Puyallup Food Bank has been serving the Puyallup Valley, and has contributed to millions of meals and man-hours to ensure that our neighbors do not go hungry. In 2020 alone, we have established a delivery service to reach our elderly population, on track to serve nearly 80,000 of our neighbors that are struggling, and helped the Puyallup School District feed their students.

“My vision for the Puyallup Food Bank is that we are known as an organization that serves our community with evident generosity as well as one that continually evolves to operate with a culture that strives for excellence in all that we do,” said Mr. Johnson. “I can promise you the following, the Puyallup Food Bank is committed to serve generously, provide relief, and give hope to those who need us now more than ever.”

Mr. Johnson has a vision to help us continue to address needs and adapt to the unique challenges that are affecting our friends and neighbors in the valley.
