An exciting announcement thanks to the generosity of the Safeway/Albertsons Companies, Inc.

Generous. Resilient. Compassionate. When we think of our Puyallup community, these three words immediately come to mind. We are not only unified as people who live in the same geographical region, but also as neighbors who care for one another.

Since 1972, the Puyallup Food Bank has dedicated our mission to giving a hand up to our fellow neighbors in need. 48 years later, in the midst of these uncertain times, you can still count on us to be there for you. If you or someone you know is in need, our doors are open and we are here to help. For more information on how to schedule an appointment, visit our Need Help page.

As we reflect on the past month, we continue to be inspired by the generosity of our donors and the compassion of our volunteers—together, we are resilient.

Currently at the Puyallup Food Bank, 1 out of the 5 neighbors we serve are 55 years of age or older. With seniors encouraged to stay home, we have had to reassess how we serve nearly 20% of our clients. Thanks to partnerships with the Puyallup Senior Activity Center and Bridges of Love NW, we are now able to offer delivery services for our senior neighbors in need.

Furthermore, schools have also been cancelled across the state, bringing the issue of access to the forefront for thousands of students enrolled in the “National School Lunch Program”. To meet this new need, the Puyallup Food Bank has teamed up with the Puyallup Hunger Task Force to distribute meals and snacks at designated locations across the Puyallup School District footprint.

Everything we do is with a neighbor in need in mind.

In addition to the implementation of these new delivery systems, we are also in the process of expanding our capacity to meet a substantial increase in need.

Thanks to the generosity of Safeway and our local churches, we have secured a temporary location to help us serve more families in our Puyallup community: 1405 East Main Avenue, Puyallup WA 98372. This new space will allow us to not only serve more people, but also enables us to bring in more volunteers while adhering to social distancing guidelines set by the CDC.

For those of you sitting at home wondering how you can support our fellow neighbors in need, we invite you to join our team of Super Hunger Heroes.

  1. Financial gift– your generous donation will go directly to serving our neighbors in need

  2. Volunteer– you can join our dedicated cohort of volunteers and help make a significant impact in your community

Volunteers who serve 30+ hours of their time and/or donors who give financial gifts of $250+ (between April 1st and July 31st) will receive a Super Hunger Hero patch!

Together, we can make a difference in the life of a neighbor in need and a significant impact in our community. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration. If you have any questions, or would like more information, in regards to how you can help us fight hunger in our community please email info@puyallupfoodbank.org.

Thank you,
